Ilysa is a first-generation Filipino-American. She seeks to honor the rich history of fashion as a tool to fight oppression by integrating her ideas about spirituality and auto-ethnography in her designs. Her collection is dedicated to her family, friends, and the beautiful mountains she calls home.
Filipino-inspired Design
IIlysa’s collection draws inspiration from the Babaylan, the witches, shamans, and psychic mediums of the Philippines. In the process of designing her collection, she incorporated natural dyes and fabrics made from native plants and collaborated with musicians, designers, and actors to produce this wonderful celebration of Babylonian culture and the fluidity of gender expression among this unique population.
